Tommy Strang was
saddened that his children, like most others, went
through their Primary teaching
with very little in the way of Mathematics homework,
so in 1994, he began to write
homework for use in his wife’s
Primary school, to support the Heinemann
textbooks which were used in almost every Primary School
in Scotland at that time.
The homework simply provided additional work which
mirrored the actual classwork, and it was very warmly received by
staff, pupils and parents.

At that time, his brother John (the J of TJ) found
his job as IT manager with an
industrial firm came to an end and they decided he
should desk-top publish this
first homework support pack and try to sell it. That
was in October 1994.

TJ PUBLISHERS WAS BORN AT THAT TIME.

Little did they realise the impact their support materials
were to make on the
Scottish Education scene and to where it would lead
them.

Along with James Geddes, a colleague and friend, they
quickly produced a
homework pack to consolidate every Primary textbook
in use and also included
practice materials for the Scottish National Tests
which children sit at various
stages, referred to as Levels A, B, C, D, E and F. |
